Every Weightlifter Needs 2 Rehab Programs

I always joked that I have the mindset of meathead without the body to match. Meatheads and weightlifters alike, come with their own considerations when it comes to performance physical therapy. Whether you're a powerlifter, bodybuilder, olympic lifter, Crossfit athlete, or may be even just a recreational lifter, each individual and their training regiment come with their own unique challenges.

At Tundra Performance and Physical Therapy, we recognize these differences and put together a plan that not only addresses the root cause of what your symptoms are but we blend that with your lifting and training regiment so that you get back to the training floor better than ever.

So why do all weightlifters need 2 physical therapy programs?

Their first program is symptom specific. How we manage pain, address deficits, and rebuild resilience. These programs are tailored to the person, their presentation, and their unique symptomatology that may exist. These programs everyone should be familiar with at Tundra Performance and Physical Therapy.

So whats the second program?

Each weightlifter gets a program specific to their training protocols. For power lifters, its oriented around our big 3 movements of either the squat, deadlift, or bench. For a Crossfit athlete, might be training modifications for gymnastics movements such as a muscle up or handstand push up. All the way to our recreational lifters who might need a new lifting program for the gym that fills in some gaps that have been present.

Evaluating a weightlifter might include looking at their bar path or what happens at max weights versus lower ones. If we don’t have a plan to progress back to the intensity required to lift at a high level, we might address the pain sure, but once we get back to higher level movements the machine breaks down again.

Every weightlifter needs a second program that addresses the training room and potential modifications. A lot of the time this is the missing piece. In our evaluations, we spend a lot of time talking training and what our athletes are doing. Their rep schemes, their warm up. We dive deep to make sure no stone is left uncovered.

If you’re a weightlifter who’s injured and don’t have a program to address the training room, book a discovery call with us where we can start your journey back to pain free.
