Nobody Would Actually Pick Winter
7 Years ago, Jess and I were visiting with her family, Josh and Emily, in Durango and got into a heated debate about which season was the best. We weighed out pros and cons of the weather, what activities were available, and the emotions that each season stirred up. There was conclusive agreement that we all loved parts of all four seasons Colorado has to offer and it's a big reason as to why we choose to live here. Blessed to get over 300+ days of sun, powder days dumping feet of snow on the mountain within a couple days, and beautiful changing colors in the Fall and Spring.
At least within the context of our argument, we quickly ruled out Fall and Spring as the best season due to the limited capacity for outdoor activities. Ultimately, it came down to Winter or Summer. Snowshoeing versus hiking and backpacking. Skiing and snowboarding versus climbing and mountain biking.
What an actual blessing to live in a place where all of these opportunities exist. To have an abundance of outdoor activities to choose from. I’ve always argued that Colorado’s biggest problem is that nobody has time to do them all.
We spent far too much time diving into which activities held supreme in the grand order of enjoyment. We were at a standstill……….. until out of nowhere Josh exclaimed:
“Nobody would actually pick Winter.”
Skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, all amazing. But once you tie in what the weather is like when you’re not doing these activities, the debate quickly comes to a close. Nobody would actually choose the cold over the warm sun of Summer. Being able to go on a quick trail run or hike after work. Hop on the bike and explore a new trail. The cold sucks. This is coming from someone who grew up in Minnesota and I have become quite soft when it comes to the cold. While I love snowboarding as much as the next person, give me the warmth and Sun and all the activities that come with it.
At Tundra Performance and Physical Therapy we’re putting our snowshoes and snowboards away and breaking out the camping tents, fishing poles, and hiking shoes.
